During winter, the fjords fill up with killer whales. You can also witness the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights) as they dance across the snow-clad mountains. During summer, you can wander along the white, sandy beaches and take in the smell of the sea, to the accompaniment of screeching seagulls in the distance. In November 2007, Lofoten was selected as the world’s 3rd most appealing archipelago by National Geographic Traveller.
